Course Description
SCA Brewing Intermediate is designed for those who have some brewing experience and are eager to delve deeper into the art and science of coffee brewing. This course elevates your brewing knowledge from foundational to a more advanced level, focusing on enhancing the quality of your coffee.
During this immersive course, you will study the brewing process in greater depth, exploring device usage, extraction order, and wetting. You'll examine the critical elements of brewing and understand their individual impacts on the final cup.
The course will guide you in scientifically measuring coffee strength and charting a coffee's extraction. It enables you to analyze both brewed coffee and espresso, empowering you to make informed adjustments to achieve a well-extracted, balanced cup every time.
You will also learn about the importance of cleaning and maintenance in preserving your equipment's function and the taste of your coffee.
The course concludes with a written exam testing your intermediate-level knowledge and a practical exam assessing your ability to distinguish strength and extraction differences in brewed coffee. You'll also be challenged to prepare brews using different devices and correct a poorly brewed coffee recipe from an automatic filter brewer.
